Littleborough Historical and Archaeological Society recognise local WW1 soldiers
Date published: 11 August 2014
Littleborough Historical and Archaeological Society has put together a list of local soldiers who fell during the First World War.
The list, as far as the group can tell, is a definitive list of WW1 soldiers who were connected to Littleborough in one way or another.
The list also includes the names of soldiers listed on local war memorials who the group cannot trace, despite many searches, and soldiers who are said to have a local connection but for whom no actual connection can be traced.
The society will also be commemorating each fallen soldier during the week of the soldier's 100th anniversary over the coming four years. To do this the group will enter the soldier's details and where he fought (where available) on the their website so that relatives can see what information the society has and, where possible, to add to the information kept in the groups archives.
The same details will also be displayed within the History Centre at Littleborough Station so that visitors and passengers on the platform can access the information.
The group also plan to have the war memorials in their collection re-dedicated in late October.
