Vinca Jocale charity auction night

Date published: 08 August 2014

Vinca Jocale, a local handmade jewellery and gift business based in Littleborough is hosting an online auction to raise money for the NMO-UK Research foundation.

The event, to be held on Tuesday 12 August will see the business auction off specific items, offer discounted items and special offers to customers and will be selling gift hampers with a percentage of profits being donated to the charity.

Julie Harris owner of Vinca Jocale said: “My dear friend Colleen has the condition Neuromyelitis Optica (NMO) and very little is known about this rare debilitating condition. Colleen is an extremely inspiring lady and has recently been involved in clinical drug testing trials.

“Colleen has already raised over £1,000 with the support of her family - one even ran the Marathon! I am not quite up to running a marathon unfortunately, but I promised Colleen I would do all I can to help. Colleen and I are working in partnership with the NMO-UK Research Foundation and are planning lots of events including a large craft fair in September.”

Neuromyelitis Optica is an uncommon neurological condition also known as Devic’s disease. It is a neurological condition caused by disease or damage to the brain, spinal cord or nerves.

Colleen Patterson said: “I think it is very true to say that each and every person affected by Neuromyelitis Optica has had their lives turned upside down.  For some of us through the unbearable pain, some the blindness and headaches and paralysis and so much more.

“The money that we can raise will go towards finding a cure for this dreadful disease. We will be so grateful for all donations.”

The NMO-UK Research Foundation aims to help and support sufferers of NMO and raise awareness of the condition.

The event will be held on the Vinca Jocale Facebook page between 7pm and 10pm.
