Young volunteers bring community together

Date published: 08 August 2014

The community in Wardleworth came together at a community fun day run by Wardleworth Community Centre and volunteers from vInspired.

The vInspired cashpoint scheme offers young people, age 14-25, grants of up to £500 to change the things they care about in their communities.

Jabaydur Choudhury, one of the volunteers involved with organising the event, said: “I would encourage everyone who can to volunteer and get involved.

“Me and the team that helped organise this event enjoy volunteering and organising events to keep the children and young people of our communities active and engaged.

"I’m so grateful that the vInspired cashpoint grant has allowed us to organise the fun day and bring the community together.”

Doulot Miah, Wardleworth Community Centre Manager, said: “It was lovely to see so many people taking part in such a great community event. The community centre was packed and there were over 200 young people and children present.

“This event was a great success with plenty of activities going on to keep children of all ages happy, while their parents savoured the various stalls that were set up by local people.

"The local young volunteers were fantastic. They organised and ran the event very well along with staff member Afzal Miah, ensuring everyone went home with a huge smile on their face. I could not be more proud of them.”

The event included a bouncy castle, face painting, arts and crafts, football and a BBQ.

Iqra Tasleem, aged 8, who attended the fun day said: “I enjoyed the fun day. I met so many people. Me and my friends Saniyya and Sabeera really liked the bouncy castle, badge making and the painting. It was lots of fun.”
