Residents from Coventry, Oldham and Manchester join in with the latest REAG clean up

Date published: 08 August 2014

Rochdale Environmental Action Group (REAG) were joined by three new members from Coventry, Oldham and Manchester to help them clean the streets of Rochdale.

In their latest clean up, the group cleaned:

  • Milkstone Road
  • Tweedale Street
  • Mere Street
  • Devon Street
  • William Street
  • Suffolk Street
  • Henry Street
  • Sussex Street
  • Milk Street

The group found cans, bottles, cigarette packets, litter and rubbish in and around the streets and also found a dead rat on Devon Street – which has now been reported to Environmental Health.

Eeka is from Indonesia but lives in Coventry, she came along to the clean up to help sister Noel, the Neighbourhood Officer for REAG. Sue from Oldham and Bill from Manchester also came to the town to help with the clean up.

Ghulam Rasul Shahzad OBE, Secretary of the REAG said: “REAG members are pleased to read reports that those responsible for fly tipping are being fined for such behaviour. People responsible for the litter and rubbish must respect the town and the people of the town by taking their rubbish or litter to the Rochdale tip. If they continue to fly tip, then, the only option left is the enforcement of the Environmental Laws.”
