Samsung partners with Hopwood Hall College

Date published: 06 August 2014

Samsung, the global technology company, is set to help students as they learn all about the electronics industry in a new partnership with Hopwood Hall College.

The deal, which is the first of its kind for Samsung, will see a number of initiatives take place at the College over the coming months. The first of these is the donation of some IP CCTV equipment from the company, which arrived at the College this week, in time for electronic students to use in September.

The donated equipment includes a number of Internet protocol (IP) cameras and Network Video Recorders.

For electronics students and apprentices at the College this is a great opportunity to study with state-of-the-art technology. It will ensure they are learning about the most modern equipment, which will help them as they move forward in their careers.

Derek Bonney, Hopwood Hall College security alarms and electrical lecturer was on-hand to help take delivery of the equipment. He was also invited to Samsung’s Training Centre in Middleton this week, where Samsung’s electronic engineers were pleased to provide him with training on the IP product range. He said: “For students to be able to work on industry standard equipment is clearly advantageous for them. I’m really looking forward to teaching the students all about the equipment.”

Karen Humphreys, Contract Manager at Training @ Hopwood, the employer engagement arm of the College who organised the partnership with Samsung added: “This is a fantastic opportunity for the students giving them the opportunity to use up to date equipment within the curriculum .

"The teaching staff are also invited to attend various training opportunities with Samsung at their training facility in Middleton, keeping abreast of all the latest technologies in this ever changing industry.

"The partnership has further exciting projects in the pipeline in the coming months ahead and we will keep you posted!”

Adam Radley, Training Manager at Samsung, said: “The partnership with Hopwood Hall College is really exciting, not just for the students but for everybody at Samsung Techwin as well.

"We’re all looking forward to helping to shape the next generation of engineers in the security industry.”
