Cyclist dies after being hit by a lorry

The cyclist who was hit by a lorry yesterday evening (Monday 4 August) has died.

It is understood that he died earlier this morning and has been named locally as Alan Croston from Rochdale.

Police confirmed that he suffered from fatal injuries as a result of the accident.

A DAF CF truck that was travelling along Dane Street turned left into Norman Road where it collided with a Mr Croston who was riding a pedal cycle.

Police and air ambulance attended the scene at 3.55pm.

Sergeant Lee Westhead from GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Our thoughts are with this man’s family and friends at this tragic time.

“We have launched an investigation and are appealing for the public’s help to establish the circumstances leading up to the collision.

“Anyone with any information is asked to call the Serious collision Investigation Unit on 0161 856 4741.”
