Helen Leach has successfully completed a charity swim and a 10k run to raise over £350 for the National Autistic Society.
Helen decided to raise money for the National Autistic Society as she has a son who is autistic.
Helen said: “I chose the National Autistic Society because I have a profoundly autistic son, Nat. He has no speech, very limited communication skills and many behavioural difficulties. Life is very challenging for him and for us his family in caring for him. There is very limited support available for families like mine so the work that the National Autistic Society does is invaluable.”
To raise the money, Helen, a Rochdale Council legal officer, pledged to complete a 10k run and a mile swim both in under an hour. Helen completed the run in sweltering heat earlier in the year in 58m 40s and completed the swim in monsoon conditions at Salford Quays last weekend in 58m 30s.
The National Autistic Society is the leading charity for people with autism (including Asperger Syndrome) and their families. The charity provides information, support and pioneering services as well as campaigning for a better world for people with autism.
