Rochdale Ramblers support NW Air Ambulance and Breast Cancer Prevention in Charity Walk across Morecambe Bay
Date published: 25 July 2014
On Sunday 20 July, ten members from Rochdale Ramblers joined over 700 other walkers to walk across Morecambe Bay for charity.
The eight mile walk across the bay, from Arnside to Kents Bank, was led by 81-year-old Cedric Robinson MBE, the Queen’s Official Guide to the Sands.
The charity walk was to raise money for the North West Air Ambulance Service and Genesis Breast Cancer Prevention.
Roy Thorniley, Footpath Secretary for the Rochdale Ramblers, said: “It was a great, well organised day out and an amazing experience in an area surrounded by fantastic views of the Lake District and beyond.”
“There was a huge turnout which included family groups, children, and dogs. It was all in the name of two excellent causes.”
The walk was organised by Friends of the Lake District and Genesis Breast Cancer Prevention. The organisers estimate that the event could raise up to £10,000 once all the sponsorship money is in.
“We got a bit wet crossing the rivers, but the sun shone all afternoon and everyone enjoyed themselves,” Roy added.
