Parking on double yellow lines is causing 'traffic chaos' in Littleborough

Date published: 16 July 2014

Cars continuously parking on double yellow lines is causing “traffic chaos” in Littleborough, says resident.

Photos sent to Rochdale Online show a number of cars parked on double yellow lines on Church Street on Thursday 4 July and again on Thursday 10 July.

Gail Stewardson, who took the photos, said: “This is a daily occurrence. I have lost count of the amount of times I have phoned Rochdale Council Parking Services, who then respond by saying we will try and get someone out to have a look. Their excuse was well they might be disabled. No just lazy people who won't walk.”

Gail added: “I pass this part of the road on my way home from work each day and there are cars parked there every day which causes traffic chaos.”

Gail also believes that there is a similar issue outside of the Red Rooster Takeaway on Halifax Road.

“Cars parked here are on double yellow lines and are parking on both sides of the road, again, causing chaos at busy times. Why does Rochdale Council grant planning applications for such businesses on roads where there are no parking facilities? Can they not foresee any issues? I can as a member of the public,” said Gail.

Julie Rushton, Head of Parking Services at Rochdale Council, said: “Littleborough is patrolled on a regular basis at various times of the day by the parking enforcement team. Where a report is received of a particular hotspot area, action is taken to try and alleviate the problem.

"In relation to the parking on Church Street, Littleborough it appears that taxis are parking on the double yellow lines outside their offices, which is not acceptable. Licensing staff will visit the owner to ensure this practise ceases.

“Blue Badge holders can, however, park on double yellow lines for up to three hours provided they display their badge and time clock showing their time of arrival.”
