Date published: 15 July 2014

Michael Winn, a former resident of Milnrow, carried the Commonwealth Baton in Aberdeen on 30 June.

Michael’s father, Trevor Winn, whi still lives in Milnrow, said: “Michael attended Milnrow Parish Primary School and Hollingworth High School in Milnrow. He then left the area to go to university in Aberdeen.”

“Michael was nominated for this honour by his employers, Ernst & Young, for his work with Glencraft and his service to Scouting.”

After joining the First Milnrow Cub Scouts group as a child, Michael has continued his work with the Scouts becoming the Assistant Area District Commissioner for Scouts in Aberdeen.

In 2013, Michael participated in the Munro challenge to raise money for Glencraft; a charity in Aberdeen which provides secure employment for blind and disabled people in the local area.

“I’m very proud of what Michael has achieved and hope he continues his hard work,” added Trevor.
