Heywood Township Meeting as it happened

Date published: 14 July 2014

The agenda at tonight’s (Monday 14 July) meeting included the Heywood Station Conservation area, the Armed Forces Covenant and open space.

Heywood Conservation Area - Mark Robinson from Rochdale Council stated that a new report has come to the township based on consultation and that there are three proposals to extend the conservation area. These proposals come off of the back of the consultation and are in support of the consultation.

Councillors agreed the report.

Section 106 – open space was discussed next.

Heywood Township currently has £95,000 available for public open space improvements. Further money has also been set aside from developments to go towards improvements around the sports village and park. The township should also expect further money to come in during the future.

A presentation regarding the council budget was next.

Since 2010 the council has had to make on-going savings of £107 million. Rochdale Council has to make another £51 million in savings. These savings could change but townships and the public will be kept up-to-date regarding this.

The open forum next.

Questions regarding tree preservation, traffic and footpaths were discussed.

The Armed Forces Community Covenant, WW1 Commemoration plans and an Armed Forces Fund report was agreed by councillors.

Need for additional Secondary School places for 2015-2024 was discussed. Currently in Heywood 17 out of 100 primary school pupils have to go to a school in other parts of the borough or in other towns. A consultation is currently under way to find out where people want extra school places added. It is estimated that an extra 30 school places will be needed per year. This won’t necessarily happen straight away but plans need to be put in place to ensure that they are available.

Meeting ended.
