Hundreds get soaked in their pyjamas... but all for a good cause

Date published: 12 July 2014

Participants in the first ever Springhill Hospice Pyjama Parade got soaked tonight (Saturday 12 July), but the rain did nothing to dampen spirits.

The event, which has replaced the Midnight Walk, saw 250 walkers set off from the new hospice fundraising offices at the Craven Heifer at 9.30pm on a 10k walk around Rochdale.

Sarah Ford, Income Services Manager at Springhill Hospice, said: “We are really pleased with the turnout. It is fantastic. It is great to see that everyone has put in so much effort and it is lovely to start the event from our new fundraising offices.”

Walkers aged in range with families and groups of friends taking part.

Christine Barlow, who has been supporting the Hospice for over 20 years, said: “I thought it was a great cause when I started supporting them and I still think it is a great cause today. I have done the Midnight Walk before and really enjoyed it I so decided to come back.”

Becky Smithies, who has fund raised for the Hospice before, took part with her daughter and said: “They do really good work at the Hospice so I thought I would get involved to show my support for them.”

Cath Reece said: “We have been doing the event [Midnight Walk] for a number of years now and really enjoy it. The Hospice is a good local charity that do amazing work.”

Angela Flynn added: “I think it is good that they are using this new building because I think it will attract more people to take part. We will certainly being doing it again next year if we can.”

Walkers received a t-shirt, glo-band, poncho and post walk bacon sandwich for their efforts.
