Rochdale Big Games

Date published: 12 July 2014

The Big Games came to Rochdale today (Saturday 12 July) and took over Broadfield Park and Touchstones.

Activities in the park included rounders, football, bowling, cricket, Ju-Jitsu and Nordic walking.

Children could also tackle an adventure corner and have a go at a climbing wall or a mobile high ropes course. Performers were also on hand to entertain children including Punch and Judy and Whitworth Vale and Healey Youth Band.

Barbara Lloyd from Link4Life, who organised the event, said: “We are very pleased with how the Big Games has gone this year. The weather really helps because I think when it is a nice day like today people like to come out and have a go at things.”

Over at Touchstones, an art trail was available for people to follow as well as arty origami windmill crafts. A Tree ID and Scavenger hunt for families was also being run with prizes being given out after the hunt.

Alison Cooper from Touchstones said: “We have seen a really good response and have been rather busy. It is nice to be able to have things outside and inside as well. The reaction has been really positive.”

The Big Games is in partnership with Link4Life’s Activ8teme scheme. The scheme aims to get more people active by specialising in low cost, easy access sessions across a range of sports.

All activities at the event were free to the public.
