Date published: 10 July 2014

Local projects are to receive a combined £58,773 from the Big Lottery Fund Awards: Little Heaton Primary School in Middleton, Alkrington Primary School, Moorhouse Primary School, Peopleprint Community Media Workshop, Middleton Popstars Academy and Barnett Court Tenants Association.

Little Heaton Primary School will receive £10,000 to purchase and install fixed play equipment in the school grounds. This will provide play equipment to increase physical activity among local children.

Alkrington Primary School will receive £10,000 to install footpaths and seating to create a woodland environment on the school field to be used at break and lunchtimes. This will encourage children and young people to play outdoors and take part in physical play.

Moorhouse Primary School will receive £10,000 to run holiday activity clubs for children at the school. This will allow children and families to experience new activities, develop valuable life skills and raise their aspirations for the future.

Peopleprint Community Media Workshop will receive £9,986 to pay for a digital specialist to set up an internet radio group for local people. This will provide a way for local people to discuss issues affecting the community and encourage isolated residents to socialise.

Middleton Popstars Academy of Performing Arts Ltd will receive £9,811 to deliver social activities chosen by and run for local older people. Activities are likely to include sewing, crafts gardening, drama, and Tai Chi.

Barnett Court Tenants Association will receive £8,976 to deliver social activities for residents in a sheltered housing development. This will enable residents to socialise, enjoy mentally stimulating sessions and light exercise together.
