Crime Prevention for the Week

This week Rochdale East has seen a couple of burglaries which were due to properties being insecure. Due to the warmer weather please be extra vigilant against would be burglars by securing your property as this is the time of year when we usually see an increase in sneak in thefts in relation to both car crime and burglaries. However there are simple steps you can take that will make it far more difficult for criminals and will help minimise the chances of you becoming a victim of crime:

• Burglars will be on the look-out for open windows/doors that they can sneak through along with signs that nobody is at home. Unfortunately 1 in 3 burglaries are through insecurities.
• Do not leave car keys on view in your home and make sure they are kept away from doors or windows to prevent easy theft by car thieves.
• If you are going away, Please remember to set your alarm, timer lights to come on and ask a trusted neighbour to keep an eye on your home
• Ensure any tools or gardening equipment is secure within your shed to reduce the risk of these being used by burglars. Consider fitting good quality locks and an alarm to your shed or outbuilding.
Most car thieves are opportunistic, and there are simple steps you can take to ensure your vehicle is not targeted.
• When you leave your vehicle, lock your doors and close all windows. Check them manually – automatic locking devices can suffer from interference
• Remove all valuables when you leave your vehicle.
