Burglary & Vehicle Crime Update’s for this week from Fri 27th June- Thurs 03rd July:
Theft from motor vehicle (TFMV) 7 Heywood – 4 Middleton
Theft of motor vehicle (TOMV) 2 Heywood – 0 Middleton
Burglary – 11 Middleton – 0 Heywood
Burglary OTD (Sheds & Garages) – 8 Middleton – 4 Heywood

Crime Prevention tips for the week: Shed Security
There has been an increase in the number of shed break-ins over the past week in the Heywood/ Middleton area. Please note if you haven’t already, then think about investing in Shed Security, such as putting padlocks on shed doors, internal bars or grilles on the shed windows or shed alarms. If you store items such as lawn mowers or cycles in your shed then it may be worth painting your postcode and house number across the top of the lawn mower or using a bicycle lock to secure it to something inside the shed. Always lock cycles to something fixed or bulky while in the shed, you could even have your cycle postcoded, some cycle dealers provide this service for a small charge. Also, please don’t leave garden tools in your garden such as spades, ladders. Burglars don’t often carry tools, but simply use items lying left around. Wheelie bins are sometimes used as a climbing aid or means of transporting property. Secure them.

Events taking place Next Week: GMP to take part in Alzheimer’s show this weekend GMP’s Chief Constable Sir Peter Fahy will be speaking at the event on Saturday 5 July, he said: “The increase in the number of elderly people living in our society particularly those suffering from dementia and Alzheimer's disease is one of the greatest challenges all the public services face.

The Alzheimer’s Show Manchester takes place this weekend - 4 and 5 July at Event City, Manchester, and will attract over 1500 people from across the North West. The event will provide direct access to the experts, information, advice and the best products and services available in the UK to anyone living with dementia, either personally or as a personal or professional carer, and point visitors in the direction of local and national services that can ease the pressure.

“For the police the elderly are especially vulnerable and we are seeing an increasing number of calls expressing concern for their safety.

“There are increasing allegation about abuse of the elderly by carers and of incidents in care homes some of them between residents.

“On a personal level I know of the stress faced by the families of those suffering with Alzheimer's and the many practical difficulties caused by loss of short term memory as my own mother suffers from dementia.

“It seems to me we have to find ways where there is better care for the elderly in the community and where there are good people looking out for fellow residents who may be vulnerable through dementia in the same way that those involved in Neighbourhood Watch acts as a catalyst for getting people involved in crime prevention.”
