Littleborough Station celebrates 175 years

The Friends of Littleborough Station celebrated the station reaching 175 years today (Friday 4 July) by unveiling a commemorative plaque - unveiled by local MP Simon Danczuk unveiled.

The Mayoress of Rochdale, Beverly Place also attended the event along with councillors for Littleborough Lakeside.

An opening ceremony took place on 3 July 1839 and the line was officially opened to the public on 4 July 1839.

Chairwoman of the Friends of Littleborough Station, Rae Street, said: “We are very pleased with how today went. It was a very good event that was attended by a lot of people. 175 years is a long time so it was nice to celebrate this milestone.”

Holy Trinity School band performed at the station and guests were invited to look at the revamped waiting rooms, now known as the History Centre.

Rochdale Online Director John Kay who attended the event said: “It was great to see so many Littleborough Folk in Stevenson Square to celebrate the occasion and to visit the history centre on platform one.”
