REAG members clean canal
Date published: 03 July 2014
Members of the Rochdale Environmental Action Group (REAG) cleaned Rochdale Canal from the Milkstone Road Bridge to the Oldham Road Bridge Saturday 28 June, and the previous weekend they cleaned the canal from Sandbrook Park to Milkstone Road Bridge.
Ghulam Rasul Shahzad OBE said: “We found Coke cans, plastic bottles, pieces of bread, and pieces of chapatti, rice, flour and trolleys had been thrown into the canal.
“These not only contaminate the water but also make its flow very slow and harm those birds that drink water.
“Rochdale Environmental Action Group is asking the appropriate authorities to take action against those found responsible for throwing such things in the canal.
“We are also asking the people of the Borough of Rochdale to show respect to the canal, its water, birds that drink its water and the beautiful environment.”
