Cash Mob helps out local businesses

Date published: 02 July 2014

A cash mob took place today (2 July) in Rochdale town centre as part of Independent Retailers Month.

A cash mob is an event in which people come together to spend a minimum amount of money in an independent retailer. The independent retailer is chosen out of a hat to ensure a fair chance to all retailers in the area.

Once the cash mob is complete, participants fill out a feedback form for the retailer so they can improve their business.

The business that was visited by the cash mob today was FMC Design Factory.

Rachel Oakes-Courchene, partner at FMC Design Factory, said: “I’ve loved being cash mobbed.

"We’ve had a lot of new customers today through the event and hopefully it will bring back more people to the shop to see what we have on offer.”

Debbie Hernon, Chief Executive of Rochdale Town Centre Management, organised the event and said: “We’ve had a great turnout for the event today.

"It’s great that FMC Design Factory was chosen because it’s recently moved locations and people may not know where they are now.

"The cash mob is a really good opportunity to make people aware of what local businesses in Rochdale have to offer.”

More cash mobs will take place on each Wednesday in July at 12pm. The team will meet outside Marks & Spencer, Yorkshire Street, before moving on to their chosen retailer.
