Mecca Rochdale employees to climb Mount Snowdon to raise funds for Carers Trust

Date published: 30 June 2014

Employees from Mecca Bingo in Rochdale are amongst 50 employees from 14 Mecca clubs hoping to raise over £7,000 for the Carers Trust as part of its 24/7 challenge by climbing Mount Snowdon on Tuesday 8 July.

Launched to support the round-the-clock care provided by the UK’s 7 million carers, the 24/7 initiative aims to raise much needed funds for carers who offer unpaid care for a friend or family member who could not cope without their support.

On 8 July, employees from Mecca Rochdale, Oldham, Bolton, Manchester Hyde Road, Blackpool, Chester, Wednesbury, Kingstanding, Crewe, Stoke, Wrexham, Oldham, Sale and Ellesmere Port are coming together to raise funds for carers across the UK.

In addition to the climb, employees from respective clubs will be hosting a bake sale while also taking turns to complete 24 miles a day for seven days on an exercise bike from 9 July.

Helena Taylor, general manager at Mecca Rochdale, comments: “We can’t wait to get stuck into our next charity challenge fundraising for Carers Trust. We understand how vital it is to support those who dedicate so much of their time to care for another, so are pleased to be raising funds for such a worthy cause. Our challenge promises to be a great event and we’re really hoping everyone can come and join us to show their support for such a deserving charity.”

Pushpinder Gill, Senior Corporate Fundraising Manager at Carers Trust, comments: “With over seven million people in the UK caring for others, often at great personal cost to themselves, it’s essential for us to offer them the support they need and deserve. Carers like John for example, who suffered from a bad back after sleeping on a broken sofa-bed and as a result, could no longer take care of his 75 year old uncle with dementia and rheumatoid arthritis. John was awarded £300 for a new bed and now has somewhere comfortable to get a good night’s sleep, thanks to the money raised by Mecca clubs. We’re extremely grateful to Mecca for undertaking this fundraising challenge to raise awareness for those who offer 24/7 care to those who need it and wish them the best of luck!”

Donations are being accepted in each participating club. For more information on the 24/7 challenge please call Mecca Rochdale, 01706 750755.
