New gallery opens in Littleborough

Date published: 27 June 2014

Fresh from the Studio, a new gallery has opened in Littleborough.

The gallery, which is run by Elizabeth White is located on Church Street and will display pieces of work from local artists and crafters.

Elizabeth said: “A lot of the things we are displaying and will be displaying are from local people so it is a chance for them to show off what they have to offer as well as a chance for me to show off and sell my pieces of art.”

An artist herself, Elizabeth has previously run galleries. She added: “It is something I have done in the past and it is something that I started to miss. These premises then became available and I decided to go for it.”

The gallery currently displays and sells items including artwork, fabric gifts, clothes, jewellery and woodwork.

“I think Littleborough has a really good arts side and has a lot of good up and coming artists and art projects like the arts festival. That was something that I liked about these premises. We will hopefully be able to open during the farmers markets as well to draw people in from that,” said Elizabeth.

Lindsey James, from Violet Flamingo, a bespoke clothing and accessories business, decided to sell her products in the gallery to help spread the word about her products. She said: “I have been doing this for about two years now and it is starting to pick up so I thought this would be a good way to spread the word a little bit more.”

Andrea Banks, who will be selling her jewellery at the gallery, said: “I have been selling my pieces at craft fairs and things and was approached with this opportunity and thought that it was something good to get involved with.”

Derek Malcolm, a self-taught wood turner, said: “I am hoping this will be good for us. I do well selling my pieces at fairs and festivals as it is but I am hoping this will add to that.”

Mel Hearn, who makes fabric gifts, decided to sell her products in the gallery after selling at craft fairs. She said: “I have been selling my products for just over two years. I do craft fairs and things but thought that this was a good chance to reach a few more people and expand on things a little bit.”

The gallery will also be holding workshops at their ‘Makers Table.’ A series of workshops will be held with the gallery concentrating on workshops that create a product.

The gallery is open to the public from today (Friday 27 June).
