The Star Tree Studio continues with Tour de France activities

Date published: 26 June 2014

The Star Tree Studio in Littleborough is well and truly embracing the Tour de France by offering a number of free activities for children.

The studio applied for funding from Rochdale Council to host activities to help celebrate the cycling event and was successful in securing that funding.

Neela Jackson, owner of The Star Tree Studio, said: “We are very happy to be working with Rochdale Council on this and we are really happy that we are able to host these activities.”

The first activity that the money helped to fund was a workshop for school children. The workshop saw children decorate a bike to be put on display.

The second activity, which is currently ongoing, invites children to decorate bespoke wooden bicycles.

“It is just a nice little activity for children to do and is a nice keep sake in the end. They can decorate the bikes in different colours,” said Neela.

The bikes were only delivered to the studio last Friday but Neela has already seen a big response to the event.

“We have had a great response to this activity,” said Neela. “I have had a lot of positive feedback from people who have already taken part and I have been contacted by people asking me to save a bicycle for them so they don’t miss out.”

Neela added: “We will also be in the park on Sunday 6 July with the bikes so people can really get involved and decorate a bike as the event is taking place.”

On Sunday 6 July a kilometre of the Tour de France race will pass into Littleborough at approximately 1.00pm – along a section of B6138 and the A58 adjacent to Blackstone Edge reservoir.

It will be the first time since 2007 that the race has been staged in England and will be the largest sporting spectacle to take place in the UK this year.
