Lesbian and Gay Foundation wins Diversity in Health Award for Rochdale work

Date published: 25 June 2014

The Lesbian and Gay Foundation (The LGF) won the Diversity in Health Award for their work in Rochdale, Heywood and Middleton and were shortlisted for the Breaking Barriers award at the Rochdale Diversity Awards.

The award was given in recognition of the hard work achieved by The LGF’s Community Development Worker, Adrian Palmer, who was also shortlisted for the Breaking Barriers Award.

Adrian said: “It is gratifying to know that the work I am doing in the Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale area is now beginning to be recognised by the local authority and health providers. There are many lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans (LGB&T) people living in the borough that through fear, misconceptions or discrimination, do not get the health and wellbeing care that they need.

“I hope that by winning this award, it will lead to many more doors being opened to me so that I can talk to as many health care professionals as possible to make them aware of the support and care that the LGB&T community need here in Rochdale,” he added.

The awards are also aimed to motivate service providers by ensuring equality and diversity issues are central to the remodelling and transformation of local services and organisations. The award winners were announced at a ceremony held at Rochdale Town Hall on Thursday 19 June 2014.
