Mother dies a day after giving birth

Date published: 24 June 2014

A mother has died at the Royal Oldham Hospital, a day after giving birth. The woman, thought to be in her 20s, was found by hospital staff in the post-natal ward and couldn't be revived.

An investigation is being carried out by the hospital to determine exactly how she died.

Cathy Trinick, head of midwifery at The Pennine Acute Hospitals’ NHS Trust, which runs the Royal Oldham Hospital, said: “We can confirm that on Monday a patient who had recently given birth sadly died on our post-natal ward.

“This is a really tragic event and our thoughts and condolences go out to the family.”

The Coroner has been informed.
