Wheelchairs arrive in Africa
Date published: 23 June 2014
A charity folk evening at Rochdale Cricket Club had raised £900, enough to send a consignment wheelchairs to Namibia via the Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland Wheelchair Foundation.
The evening was organised by Rotarians Ian Smith and Doug Sutton and compered by Hindle Wakes Folk Group featuring Rotarian Ian Smith, John Gill and Tom Hindley with guest performances from Sally James, Alyson Brailsford and The Saddlers Folk Group.
A sell-out audience, plus the very kind gesture of all performers giving their services free, enabled the purchase of these much needed wheelchairs for distribution to Namibia.
A spokesperson for Rotary said: "The logistics in getting the wheelchairs over to Namibia proved challenging but following assistance from The Rotary Club of Windhoek in Namibia we are delighted to see that the wheelchairs have now arrived in Katima Mulilo and have been distributed to the children who were in need."
