Ministerial Visit to Redwood

We are delighted that the Parliamentary Undersecretary Rt Hon Edward Timpson will be visiting Redwood to sample the inclusive sporting opportunities we provide our students. The visit will take place on 2 July and will include the Minister observing hydro activities, a swimming lesson, a rebound therapy session and a trampoline demonstration by Kallum in Year 11. This visit highlights the key role Redwood has locally and nationally in Project Ability, Health and Well Being plans and other key initiatives.

Sports Personality & Review of the Year

A reminder that you are invited to attend the 3rd Sports Review of the Year Awards which will be held Thursday 10 July at 7pm in The Gracie Fields Theatre. It will be an evening to celebrate the sporting and other achievements of our young people and share in some amazing memories from the year. You can nominate any member of the school by completing the form and returning it to school. Come along for a great family night.

6th Form Continental Residential
A group of 6th formers and staff flew to Ibiza on Wednesday for their continental residential and to sample the delights of the island. I know they will have a great time.

RedAid – Friday 4 July
Our family fun day takes place on Friday 4 July with lots of stalls, activities and entertainments being planned to make it an inclusive day for all our young people.

The Pupil Voice
We are currently collating the pupil surveys and their responses to a series of statements – when the information is collated we shall inform parents / carers of the outcomes.

Key Stage 3

Pupils in the Lilac room went to Queens Park to do P.E, Hamza, Kean and David had a go on the exercise equipment... Also in the Lilac room pupils have been cooking and tasting foods from Uruguay, which is their football team in the World Cup.

Year 8/9 Yellow pupils have had an exciting lesson with a Lady called Michelle Quinn. She showed the pupils how to make soap; this is for their ongoing story “The Paper Dolls”.

Reading group 2, as part of their novel topic pupils worked really hard to create a menu for one of the main characters “Count Olaf” using publisher on the computers.

8&9 Red and Yellow went to the pelican crossing at the bottom of Hudsons Walk to do some filming for their podcasts.

Year 7 Red pupils made crepes fromage in their French lesson.

8/9 Purple is making excellent progress with their understanding of particles and how they move when they are given increased heat energy. 8/9 Blue are developing their ability to link The Property of a material to its use during their quiz questions.

Key Stage 4

Jacqui did the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge on Saturday 7th June. The weather was horrendous with torrential rain, hail & 50mph winds. She managed to complete the 3 Peaks in 12hrs, needless to say, she was more than happy when she reached the last summit.

The Bridging Year group went to the Royal Toby Hotel on Monday morning to design and make their very own pizzas. Gill showed them how to set out the tables professionally, just like they do in a posh restaurant. We waited on each other and then had desert after the meal. This was a fun day out for all of the students and we are hoping to go again soon to celebrate the final weeks in Bridging Year.

Student’s designed and printed their own t-shirts at Middleton CLC. As you can see there were some very interesting designs.

Well done to Aisha, Jordan, Aiden, James, William, Daniel and Jordyn for passing the rebound therapy level one award. Well done to Daniel for passing the rebound therapy level two award. Certificates and badges will be given out in assembly.

Mrs. Tasker’s class worked hard on Friday to make a breakfast for the whole department. It was lovely.

Key Stage 5

Some of the internship and pre-internship students are going away with Michele, Phil and Marie. We hope that Tommy, Tom N, Thomas S, Fahad, Joshua V, Jake, Nathan S, Maria and Jade have a fabulous time and we are looking forward to seeing the photos.
In Sensory Interaction - Music and Movement they have been working on controlled breathing and body awareness. Abbey can identify named body parts, drawing them on the IWB and then position herself into the yoga pose- The Child.

On Friday 5F had a day out. The class went to the Trafford Centre. Lots of fun was had by everyone. They enjoyed relaxing around the fountains and water features and looking in a few shops. Hamley’s Toy Shop was particularly good, where everyone enjoyed looking at the toy demonstrations.

We were very excited to meet the Key Stage 4 students who will be joining us in September. We had lots of new names to learn so Sal gave her class a challenge, to write their names using only straight lines and curves.
