Middleton residents kick off summer

Date published: 21 June 2014

Middleton residents kicked off summer today (Saturday 21 June) with a fun event for children and families.

Held at St George’s playing field in Middleton, residents were treated to live music, an obstacle course, a fun photo booth, football, face painting, a climbing wall and go-karts.

John Green, chairman of the Moorclose, Junction and Baytree Tenants and Residents Association who organised the event said: “When I became chair, I wanted to organise something for people of all ages and that is what we have done.”

The event was well attended with John hoping for it to continue over the coming years.

“The aim is that the young people can take over and do something. When all of the older generation are gone, they will be in control and hopefully they can take over because this land is theirs and it should be used,” said John.

John also hopes to work with the council to hold a larger event.

He said: “We work with the youth service and have worked with them for this event but hopefully we can work with the council a bit more for a larger event one day.”

As well as the event, residents in the area could find out more about the association's memory project. The project is aiming to create a picture book history of the neighbourhood down the decades.

The project is being funded by the Big Lottery Fund.

“It is something that the residents can have and keep and hopefully it will tell people about the estate and its history as well as
providing useful information for people,” said John.
