Tesco is NOT coming to Rochdale Town Centre

Our report dated 19 June that Tesco was coming to Rochdale Town Centre was incorrect, we apologise sincerely for our error.
The building on Smith Street has planning permission for a retail unit and is being marketed as such but it is now clear we got it wrong and that Tesco is not developing the building.
A spokesperson for the Council said: "The window vinyls actually state ‘Best Cost Express’ and not ‘Tesco Express’. We would like to reiterate that we have not been approached by Tesco Express nor have we approached Tesco Express.
"The window graphics were installed in order to promote the building as an investment opportunity and to attract a new occupier."
Rochdale Online Managing Director Pauline Journeaux said: "I apologise sincerely that we got it wrong and for the concern this has caused some town centre businesses.
"We strive hard to check the accuracy of our articles before we publish them but on this occasion we fell short of the high standards we set ourselves."
