Proposed Middleton development revised

Date published: 20 June 2014

Home-builder Taylor Wimpey will present revised plans for the proposed development in Middleton at a second public exhibition on Thursday 26 June.

The developer began community consultation on the proposals earlier this month and, after "listening to feedback" on its initial ideas from the community and potential home-buyers, Taylor Wimpey has now made a number of improvements.

Changes include the removal of a proposed new shop, where feedback from local residents indicated they want to continue supporting existing shops in the area, rather than add new ones. A new community building will be provided instead, with the potential to be used by nursery groups, older peoples’ groups, Scouts and Guides, and adult learning classes.

Revisions have also been made to the parks, woodland trails and public open spaces
proposed, with a new park for young children to be included off Hollin Lane. Improvements to road safety will also be brought forward, with potential new pedestrian crossings and traffic calming measures to be introduced.

Andrew Thorley, Regional Director at Taylor Wimpey, said: “We are very pleased with the feedback we received on our initial ideas and have used this to revise the plans. The comments from the local community have directly influenced the proposals – for example, many people told us they did not want to see a new shop on the site as this may adversely affect the popular existing stores in the area, so we have
removed this from the plans.

“We’ve also received some really useful feedback on the kinds of homes people want to see included and we are now looking to include these as part of the development.

“Our aim is for the local community and potential home-buyers to be involved as much as possible in the design process, so I’d encourage anyone who is interested to come along to the public exhibition next week.”

The updated plans will be on display at a public exhibition at St Anne’s Academy on
Thursday 26 June between 6pm and 8pm.

Taylor Wimpey is looking to submit a planning application in July. More information on the proposals can be found at www.taylorwimpey.co.uk/middleton or by calling 0161 711 0293.
