Pupils raise over £1,500 for Caritas St Joseph’s Penny Appeal

Date published: 18 June 2014

Pupils at St Cuthbert’s have raised over £1,500 for the Caritas St Joseph’s Penny Appeal, the main charity supported by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Salford.

The school’s Caritas Ambassadors, who meet weekly in their own time to find ways to support people in need, were invited to hand over the cheque to Bishop Terence Brain and Chief Executive of Caritas, Mark Wiggins, at a special celebration Mass at the cathedral of St John the Evangelist in Salford.

Pupils raised the money as part of their fund-raising activities during lent when they held cakes sales and raffles or simply put their spare change into a St Joseph’s Penny collection box.

The St Joseph’s Penny Appeal is 110 years old this year and continues to help families, children and adults in need from providing the basics in life such as a safe, warm bed and a hot meal for the homeless, to organising expert counselling for those overcoming trauma.
