Green Fingered Gardeners
Date published: 18 June 2014
The Eco-School Council from St John with St Michael CE Primary School in Shawforth has been busy at a local garden centre.
The Eco warriors received £200 from The Royal Horticultural Society for reaching their highest benchmark scheme Level 5.
The children wanted to put planters on the school railings with red, white and blue flowers in to tie in with the centenary of World War I, so they chose a variety of flowers.
They also choose two apple trees for the school field and a parent has donated some car tyres which the children want to make as sensory planters, so they opted for various herbs to be planted into these which they are also going to use in cookery club.
The children were very well behaved and made some good choices.
They helped with working out their budget as they went round.
Miss Kenyon and Mrs Driver, the Eco-school coordinators, thought the children deserved an ice-cream for their efforts.
