Date published: 18 June 2014

Rotary Club of Heywood members, distinguished guests and friends went to the Broadfield Hotel in Rochdale to celebrate the club’s 81st birthday.

Members of the Rotary Club were joined by the former Mayor and Mayoress of Rochdale Borough, Peter and Monica Rush, and the Rotary District Governor, Ged Hetherington.

Treasurer for the club, George Kinder, said: “We always celebrate the club’s foundation, and this year is no exception.

“It is always good to go out and enjoy the company of other Rotarian’s who, like ourselves, spend a good deal of their time helping others.”

The club’s latest venture was to sponsor a match at Heywood Cricket Club, with a £250 donation.

George said: “The cricket club gets great support from the people of Heywood, but always has the need for more donations and funding.”

The club are currently busy with various activities. They will be manning the gates at Queen’s Park, Heywood on Sunday 7 September on the behalf of the Heywood Charities Fete.

If anyone wishes to volunteer to help the club at the event, please call George Kinder on 01706 869365 or email kindergrk@btinternet.com

The Heywood Rotary Club meet every Tuesday at 6:30pm at Pack Horse Inn, Birtle, Heywood.
