Students shine in beauty competition

Date published: 18 June 2014

Hairdressing, beauty therapy, nail technician and make-up students came out tops at the recent Greater Manchester Colleges inter-skills competition.

The students participated in competitions between the ten Greater Manchester Colleges and five of the Hopwood students won a first place spot including:

  • Khadija Fatima, 34 from Rochdale, who won the Level 1 beauty therapy category for nail art;
  • Aqsa Jabeen, 16 from Rochdale and Monique Barkatali, 19 from Middleton who won the Level 2 beauty therapy categories for facial and manicure;
  • Jessica McKenzie, 20 from Rochdale, who won the Level 2 hair and media make-up category for fantasy make-up;
  • Gemma Russell, 29 from Rochdale, who won the Level 2 nail technician category for acrylic nails.

This is the first year the Greater Manchester inter-skills competition has taken place and it was a great opportunity for students to compete against their peers in the region.

Liz Fisher, Programme Manager, Hair & Beauty, said: "We are so proud of the students for having the confidence to take part in the competitions. They demonstrated an excellent standard of professionalism throughout, and this competition was a fantastic opportunity to showcase the skills they have developed while training on courses at Hopwood Hall College."
