Tom Howe, Matty Stott and Nicholas Andrews take part in Three Peaks challenge for The Alzheimer’s Society

Date published: 17 June 2014

Tom Howe, Matty Stott and Nicholas Andrews are due to take part in the Three Peaks challenge on Tuesday 19 August.

The Three Peaks challenge requires the climbers to tackle the three biggest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales, all in 24 hours - Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in England and Snowdon in Wales.

Throughout the challenge, it is estimated that the team will walk a total of 42 kilometers with a total ascent of 9,800 feet.

The group are friends who live locally, and will be joined by a professional climber, Pete Allen, who will help them with their challenge.

They will be raising money for The Alzheimer’s Society and hope to raise £2,000 for the charity.

Tom said: “We chose The Alzheimer’s Society particularly as my family has been affected by the disease after losing my grandfather two years ago. Another member of the group also recently lost their grandparent to the disease.”

The Alzheimer’s Society is the leading support and research charity for people with dementia, their families and their carers. There are currently 800,000 people with dementia in the UK.

Tom added: “We chose the Three Peaks challenge specifically as it is a hard feat and doesn’t cost a lot of money. It is also easy to get to.”

The group have prepared for the event by undertaking a few training climbs up Mount Snowdon.
