One thousand Littleborough residents left without power
Date published: 16 June 2014
One thousand residents of Littleborough were left without power last night (Sunday 15 June) after an underground cable fault caused problems.
The problem occurred at around 9.00pm with resident’s believing an “explosion” had occurred leading to the power cut. This then led to some residents being evacuated from their homes for a short while.
A spokesperson from Electricity North West said: “We understand that when the cable faulted there was a bang. This resulted in the fire crews attending and the National Grid was called due to the smell of gas. This is why a number of residents were evacuated from their
homes.”
The majority of customers who were affected had power restored to them during the night.
188 customers were still without power this morning (Monday 16 June) with Electricity North West hoped to have all homes restored by lunchtime.
This is the third issue to have affected Littleborough in the past month.
On Monday 2 June, 50 homes were left without power due to an underground cable fault with a further 30 customers suffering a similar problem on Wednesday 4 June.
