Silver Medal at National Championships
Congratulations to Kallum R in Year 11 who achieved a fabulous silver medal in the Trampoline and Tumbling finals in Exeter last weekend. This is a fantastic achievement and worthy recognition of Kallum’s skills on the trampoline. In discussions with Kallum over lunch on Wednesday he said he was 'gutted he made one mistake which cost the gold medal'. Nevertheless a superb effort.

KS3
A selection of KS3 pupils had the opportunity to visit Gulliver’s World for the day the annual trip was provided by Rochdale Rotary Club for pupils who have shown a great attitude throughout the year.

The pupils were nominated by KS3 staff and those that went along were: Billy, Corey, Isaac B, Frank, Ciaran, Ben A, Nabeel, Muhammed, Sabrina, Rebecca, Kieran, Akasha & Charlotte.

It was a great day and all the pupils thoroughly enjoyed their time, some were even brave enough to go on the big rollercoasters. All pupils, staff and the Rotary volunteers had a great day coupled with the great weather. All of the Rotary members commented on how lovely the nominated group were and how well they represented KS3 and Redwood. We can’t wait for next year’s trip.

KS4
SSC were invited back to Moorlands home this week to say thank you for their excellent behavior on their residential.

In Art we have created Georgia O’Keeffe inspired ‘pastel floral designs’. We used oil and chalk pastels and created them from a ‘bug’s eye view’.

SEB would like to say a BIG thank you to the staff at Rochdale Fire Station for making their final visit such a memorable and fun one. Both staff and students got to try out the equipment...even Nana Carol had a go.

KS5
The students in the work room have been working with Danny Lomax from Glasseye productions and students from Hopwood Hall college to create a film about The Real Work Room. The film is a documentary about what the work project and what the internship means to them and how they believe it will support them getting paid employment in the future.

The film will be shown at the British Film Industry's Into Film award ceremony during the summer.

The students have had a great time working with the professionals; they have learned techniques in filming, camerawork and editing.

Reece has been working very hard with staff in school and Diane Pullan, the Specialist Teaching Assistant for the Hearing Impaired on his signing. Reece has 5 new signs to learn each week and is flying through them. This week, he was awarded a Certificate of Achievement for practicing and getting 100% in his test. Reece deserves a double thumbs up from everyone.

Students on the residential went on a trip out to Blackpool Zoo. For some, this residential was their first time away from home but everyone settled in and had a wonderful time. Of course, we were all happy to see Katie, Raabia, Ragnar, Brandon, Louis, Sandra and Alex back after their week away.
