Date published: 14 June 2014

Mayor of Rochdale, Carol Wardle was invited to attend a garden party with the Queen on Tuesday 10 June.

Mayor Wardle attended the event with daughter Beverly, who is the Mayoress of the borough.

Mayor Wardle said: “It was an absolutely fantastic day and it was a lovely sunny day.”

As well as attending the garden party, the Mayor and Mayoress also got invited to lunch with Rochdale MP Simon Danczuk.

“We had a brilliant day. We also got invited to lunch with Simon Danczuk and got to have a tour of the Houses of Parliament. We were able to see some things that weren’t necessarily the norm for the tour so that was good,” said Councillor Wardle.

This was a first for Mayor Wardle having never experienced anything like this before.

“I haven’t been to an event like this before but it was definitely a good day” added Mayor Wardle.

Mayor Wardle was unable to take pictures once inside the party. She said: “You are told you are not allowed to take pictures inside of
Buckingham Palace and out of about 8,000 people I think we were the only two who didn’t take in our cameras but we managed to get some pictures from throughout the day.”

She added: “It was a great start to my Mayoral year.”
