Students ‘join’ forces for new restaurant

Date published: 13 June 2014

Carpentry and joinery students were given the chance to put their skills into practice recently to help create some of the décor for a new restaurant.

Under the supervision of site joiner, and volunteer, Adrian Case, the students were tasked with designing and making fifteen blackboard menus, but with a catch. All of the blackboards had to be made out of recycled materials.

Ben Carroll, 17, said: “I enjoyed the experience. I got to use different tools that I’ve never tried before and I’d definitely like to do something like this again.”

Jack Cottrell, 16, from Middleton added: “It’s been great to see what it’s like in a real building environment.”

Adrian Case said: “I was pleased to be able to share my skills and knowledge. The students worked well together and have shown a keen interest to learn.”

The students were working with EAT (Employment and Training) Pennines, a social enterprise committed to investing in young people. The company’s latest project is the renovation of The Stables, in Heaton Park, into a new look restaurant.
