Pensioners lucky escape as car hits bungalow

Date published: 12 June 2014

Pensioners had a lucky escape when a car careered through the garden and into the wall of the bungalow in which they were sat watching TV.

At about 8.35pm on Monday 2 June 2014, police were called to an address on Leyton Road in Syke to reports that a car had driven into a house.

Officers attended and discovered a blue Suzuki estate which had driven into the house, the occupants of the car had fled the scene.

Drugs and a firearm were recovered from the car.

It was later discovered that the car had been stolen during a burglary earlier that day in Royton.

An eyewitness said: "The car was going at a ridiculous speed, the driver lost control, ploughed through the fence and garden of the old folk's bungalow and straight into the wall causing a lot of damage.

"Pensioners were in front room watching tv. They were very shaken but fortunately not hurt.

"Two young occupants of car seen running off laughing."

The police said enquiries are ongoing.
