National Semi-finalists now become Local Champions

Date published: 11 June 2014

Well done to the year 8 football team at Whitworth Community High School who have had a remarkable season. Not only have they reached the last four schools in England but they have become Rossendale Champions.

The students travelled to Alder Grange for the final and got off to a slow start conceding in the first ten minutes to a solo goal.

Even after conceding early they remained focussed and a clever Kyle Brooks through ball set up Fabio to equalise.

Ten minutes later the same two combined to make it 2-1 and just before the half time whistle Fabio chipped the keeper to make it 3-1.

In the second half Fabio scored a goal from outside the box to make it 4-1 and although there were a few nervy moments towards the end Whitworth managed to hang on for a 4-1 win.

Well done to both teams who conducted the game in a fantastic spirit which was commented on by the referee and parents at the end of the game.
