Pupils here at Falinge Park High school have been specially chosen to take part in the Royal Society Book Awards this year. The schools STEM club (Science and Technology) are proving useful as a review panel for a selection of children’s Science books. Pupils that are taking part are not only getting a sneak preview of these books, but will receive a certificate and prize for their efforts.

Year 10 Duke of Edinburgh pupils are preparing themselves for their practice expedition to Rivington on the 20-21 June. Pupils need to make sure they complete their route card as a team by 18 June 2014. Please can all students arrive at school on Friday 20th June by 7.25am for a quick photo shoot before we leave school.

Tickets for our forthcoming ‘Tex Mex Arts Quiz Night’ on the 8 July 2014 are available directly from school. The event features fun activities for families and friends of the school and takes place from 6pm until 8pm on the Science Terrace (weather permitting) in school. There will be a wide range of Mexican inspired food available (including vegetarian options). For more information or to purchase tickets, please contact Mr De Courcey or Mr Wilcock.

Letters for our forthcoming Creative and Literacy Learning Summer School are to be issued to selected learners in Year 6 this week. Please note that this summer school is funded directly by the government and there are specific criteria for places. Further information is available from our school website or by contacting Mr De Courcey directly in school.

We are now in the process of planning our provision for next year and we are delighted to announce our intention to stage ‘Hairspray: The Musical’ in November 2014. Auditions for the principal parts are to take place this week at lunchtimes and learners from all years are asked to get audition pieces from either Mr Mvula or Ms Williams. We look forward to seeing your talent at audition!

Arts Award Portfolio Assessment will take place on Thursday 24 July from 9.30am for our Year 11 students who have recently undertaken Silver or Gold qualifications. A letter will be issued shortly to invite learners to attend interview on that day with the assessor. If you require more time to complete portfolio work, then please speak with your Arts Award teacher.
