Pennine Black smash 50 goal challenge and raise £900 for charity

Date published: 10 June 2014

Pennine Black smashed their 50 goal challenge to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust by scoring 104 goals throughout the month of May.

Coach Gary Chant said: “The challenge went really well. The boys did exceptionally well and achieved double the original target.”

As well as scoring over 100 goals, the team raised almost £900 for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

Gary added: “There is still money to come in because people are still collecting bits here and there but at the last count the total was £899. Again, they have just done exceptionally well to raise that amount of money.”

Gary has now made a video to tell the story of the team’s efforts throughout May.

Gary’s son has Cystic Fibrosis and was one of the main reasons that Gary and his team decided to do the fundraising. The Cystic Fibrosis trust offered
help and support to Gary and his family after his son’s diagnosis.

Cystic fibrosis is a life-shortening inherited disease affecting over 10,000 people in the UK. The life expectancy of someone living with Cystic Fibrosis is
approximately 41 years but research has shown that babies born with the disease today can be expected to live longer.

“I think we will do some more fundraising in the future but for now the boys are having a break after doing so well,” said Gary.

The team was supported by football players from Manchester City Football club after Gary asked them to sign a team shirt.

Gary added: “The support has been brilliant. Whatever people have been able to do they have done it 100%.”
