Heywood Township Committee meeting as it happened

Date published: 09 June 2014

Councillor Ray Dutton is re-elected as chairman of the Heywood Township Committee.

Councillor Colin Lambert is elected as the vice chairman of the Heywood Township Committee.

The open forum is the first item on the agenda.

The Friends of Queen's Park ask the committee to support the naming of the open-air theatre after Sheila Hill who did a lot for the park. The committee agree and will look at funding a plaque for the theatre.

Issues regarding the change of leadership are addressed with members of the public hoping that it does not affect Heywood. Councillors assured members of the public that this would not be the case and that they would fight for Heywood.

Members of the public discuss a community forum with the township. The community would like to see a forum set up again for residents to pass on their thoughts and ideas clearly to councillors. Councillors agree that it is something that needs to be moved forward.

Father Paul Daly addresses the issue of PACT meetings and asks if they are something that can be brought back again. This is something the Township are looking at addressing.

The committee appoint councillors from the township committee to roles within other committees.

No waiting at any time restrictions on Barley Hall Street, Fold Street and Harold Lees road is discussed next.

The committee has been presented with a third option regarding the plans. This option shows a revised plan to the double yellow lines
previously planned. The committee decide that it is a decision that should be made by ward councillors in that area. Councillors Ray Dutton, Peter Rush and Liam O’Rourke decided on the second scheme that was put to the township in November to be the final
plan for the yellow lines.

Heywood Township funds is discussed next.

Councillor Alan McCarthy describes the 1940s weekend – which is due to take place on Saturday 28 June as a “success story.”

The Heywood Memorial Gardens upgrade is discussed next.

The upgrade is being undertaken in line with the WW1 commemoration plans.

School governing body vacancies is next on the agenda.

Councillors agree on the proposals.

Meeting ended.
