Mountain Rescue help fallen camper in Healey Dell
Date published: 09 June 2014
A man who fell a significant distance down the steep bank into the river gorge at Healey Dell had to be rescued by Rossendale and Pendle Mountain Rescue Team.
The man, understood to be in his forties, slipped and fell whilst camping with friends on Friday (6 June).
The Mountain Rescue Team and two mountain rescue ambulances were dispatched to the site at around 10.30pm.
Paramedics on scene were concerned at the potential for spinal and pelvic injuries along with the possibility of the casualty becoming hypothermic due to being in the river.
The Mountain Rescue Team set up an advanced rope system to allow the casualty to be lifted vertically from the river bed and then pulled to the bank before being transported to an ambulance.
It is understood that the man was taken to hospital by land ambulance.
