Hit and run in Middleton

Date published: 09 June 2014

A driver who hit a motorcyclist and knocked him off fled the scene this afternoon (Monday 9 June).

Mark Shiels was knocked off when a car pulled out from a side road and hit his motorbike.

The incident occurred on Hollin Lane, Middleton and the car was driven off in the direction of the motorway.

Lisa Lee, a coach at Middleton Trampoline Club where Mark works, said: “He was on his way to my house when it happened. He was coming from Heywood towards Middleton and this car pulled out and clipped his wheel causing Mark to fall off.”

Mark, who is 18 years old, then saw the car drive off towards the motorway and doesn’t recall which direction it went.

The car has been described as a blue car.

“He knows it was a blue car but that is all he can remember. He was picking himself up after he was knocked off and doesn’t remember anything else to do with the car,” said Lisa.

Mark has now taken himself to the hospital to be checked over.

Lisa added: “He banged his head when he fell and then when I saw him he was rubbing his hip. I don’t think he entirely knows what he has hurt yet because I think he is in shock.”

Greater Manchester Police is aware of the incident and added: “The incident occurred at 12.10pm and we received the call at 12:30pm. We are still looking into the incident as it has only recently occurred.”
