Man in critical condition following brutal assault at Parklife Festival in Heaton Park

Date published: 08 June 2014

A man is in a critical condition following a brutal assault at The Parklife Weekender Festival in Heaton Park.

The 26-year-old victim and his girlfriend were dancing in front of the Festival’s main stage when he was attacked and knocked to the ground unconscious. He was given CPR at the scene by two people, believed to be off-duty medical personnel.

He was then taken to North Manchester General Hospital, where his condition deteriorated and he has since been transferred to Hope Hospital.

The attack took place at around 9.15pm on Saturday 7 June.

The offender is described as a mixed race male, aged approximately 25 years old and around 6ft tall. He has a muscly build and short, curly, black hair which was shaved at the sides.

Detective Inspector Mark Tootill said: “The attack happened in a large crowd at one of the peak times of the festival, so we know there will be some people out there who have witnessed this assault.

“We believe that the victim may have been treated soon after the attack by two off-duty medical staff, who administered CPR before he was taken to the medical tent by security.

“We are extremely keen to speak to those two people, or anyone else who believe they may have seen the attack take place.

“If you believe you have any information that may assist us with our investigation, please contact us as soon as possible.”

Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to call police on 101 or independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
