Riding out with Rochdale cyclists

Date published: 07 June 2014

Members of the Rochdale Cyclists Touring Club and the East Lancs Road Club met up this morning (Saturday 7 June) for a Saturday morning bike ride.

The ride, which is held by the club on the first Saturday of the month, was for beginners and new members who wanted to try out riding with the club.

Caroline Travis from the club said: “We usually get a good turnout but it can depend on the weather and things. I am surprised that we had a good number today with the weather being like it is.”

Today's ride saw the riders meet at Rochdale Leisure Centre before cycling to Hebden Bridge.

Caroline added: “We usually go to a café at Hebden Bridge and then stop there before heading back. With our rides though we see how people are finding it. No one is ever left behind so if they are struggling we can change the route.”

The ride usually lasts an hour.

The club is also preparing for the Tour de France with Caroline agreeing that there has been an increase in cycling.

Cycling seems to be very popular at the minute,” said Caroline. “I think the Tour de France has really promoted it. I think we will be doing something to celebrate the Tour de France but I’m not 100% sure what exactly we will be doing yet.”

The next ride to be held by the club will be held on Saturday 28 June and is for Ladies only.

Rochdale CTC is the oldest cycling club in Rochdale and aims to provide an informal group within the Cyclist Touring Club.
