Newbold Community Day

Date published: 07 June 2014

A community day took place today (Saturday 7 June) in Newbold to show the spirit in the area.

Alison Smith, the manger at Newbold children's centre, said: “We haven’t held the event on this scale before but we often hold our own little events. This is the first time we have all come together to do one big partnership event.”

Activities took place in the Sure Start Children Centre, the Mosque, St Peter's Church, the youth centre and the local green area.

“It is also a way of showing off what each place has to offer. So, for example, we are holding activities for the younger children and the youth centre is holding things for the older children,” added Alison.

The theme for the day was Brazil in celebration of the world cup.

Alison said: “We have made sure all of our events and activities are bright and colourful and have links with Brazil for the World Cup seeing as that is coming up.”

Activities included arts and crafts, face painting, nail art, t-shirt printing, keyring making, a bouncy castle and circus skills.

“I know the youth centre has been busy so that’s a good sign. The rain hasn’t stopped us having a good day either,” said Alison.
