Man fined for wasting police time
Date published: 06 June 2014
A 30-year-old man has been issued a fixed penalty notice for wasting police time.
On 31 May 2014, a car was driving on Kings Road, Rochdale before it lost control and turned on its roof. The driver ran away from the scene and the car was recovered by police.
Officers were contacted the following morning by the driver, claiming his car had been stolen from outside his house, alongside his keys.
Enquiries revealed the man had made a false report and was issued with a £90 Fixed Penalty Notice for wasting police time.
Detective Constable Sam Taylor said: “After crashing his car, the man thought he would be able to claim on his insurance and evade his responsibilities.
“However, we discovered the man was actually driving the car when it crashed, which he later admitted.
“If you are lying, you will be found out.”
