Transition Plans
Firstly welcome back to all our young people, parents and carers following the recent half term break. One of the main priorities for this part of the summer term will be the transition programmes for pupils who are either moving from one Key Stage to another or leaving to join various vocational courses such as the Bridging Year Programme or the Internship Programme.

Children and Families Bill 2014
You may be aware that in September this year the new Bill comes into operation and the Parents Forum for Children with Disabilities in Rochdale is hosting a training event for professionals and parents / carers on Tuesday 17 June, 9.30am – 2.30pm. Please see the flyer enclosed today for more information or to book a place please contact parentforum@hotmail.com or 07901 854 741.

Sports Personality of the Year
You will be receiving an invitation next week inviting you to attend the 3rd Sports Review of the Year Awards which will be held Thursday 10 July at 7pm in The Gracie Fields Theatre. It will be an evening to celebrate the sporting and other achievements of our young people and share in some amazing memories from the year. You can nominate any member of the school by completing the form and returning it to school. Come along for a great family night.

RedAid – Friday 4 July
Our family fun day takes place on Friday 4 July with lots of stalls, activities and entertainments being planned to make it an inclusive day for all our young people.

National Schools Games Launch
Well done to our Key Stage 3 students who were selected to take part in the national school games launch in Manchester on Friday in the swimming events – Frank, Patrick, Chelsea, Muhammed and Ben will represent the school at level 2 and level 3 swimming events. Garry in Year 11 also was nominated to take part in the official launch of the event.

Representing the North West
Good luck also to Kallum in Year 11 who is taking part in the Trampoline and Tumbling regional final in Exeter at the weekend. After competing in 3 championships and gaining 2 silver and 4 gold medals, Kallum’s scores were high enough to qualify him to represent the North West at a multi-regional trampolining competition to be held over the weekend in Exeter. What a fantastic achievement and best wishes Kallum.

6th Form Residential
Well done to those students and staff in the 6th form who have had a fantastic residential activity programme this week.

After School, Youth Clubs provision
The extended schools programme started again this week and will continue until the last club activity on Saturday 12 July.

KS3

Damian McNulty ran the London Marathon for us at Redwood, the students were excited when he brought in his brought medal and sponsor money in that was raised.

As part of 8 & 9 Blue and Purple Science topic on Materials & their Properties students explored soluble and insoluble solids. They experimented with Sugar, Jelly, and Salt.

Students in Year 7 Red walked to the park in the lovely sunshine and enjoyed ice-cream which they had to buy themselves as part of their Maths. Plus they had to follow a map to get to the park as part of their Geography lesson.

The weekly target for Key Stage 3 is ‘To Look Forward To Something’; Chris said “can’t wait for the World Cup- Brazil.”

KS4

Some members of 4M recently visited a local sandwich shop as part of their independence work. They had to order a drink and drink it.

4B visited the Positive Steps office in Rochdale. Positive Steps provide careers advice and support for people in Rochdale.

Leonie Greenhalgh came into SEB to share her religious beliefs with us and brought with her lots of sensory activities and performed a sensory story on Noah’s ark. The students were actively involved and especially loved the puppets.

Mrs Harper’s creative group on a Friday have produce a mini ‘cityscape project’. Students worked as a team to produce the final product, which I’m sure you will agree looks fabulous.

Here are the Thursday horticulture group. They go to Hopwood Hall College every week to complete different tasks. Here they are potting up.

KS5

On Fridays Group 1 Art are learning about sculpture. They have been learning how to create 3D drawings and studying the work of Henry Moore. The students have been inspired to design and create their own sculpture based on the work of Moore. The group will soon be moving on to producing their design in clay.

In addition to all the lessons, outings and hardwork that takes place in 6th form, students also get free time at Break and Lunch time. Some choose to join in with sports; some enjoy time in the ICT room. For others such as Adeel, Anees and Jobie, it could be chatting to friends. Raymond prefers to look through a book and Reece has been practicing his signing. Some of our young people like to listen to Music or spend time catching up on the gossip with staff. The main thing is everyone gets to choose what they enjoy doing.

It’s very quiet in 6th Form this week as Adele, Phil, Marguerite and Julie have taken a group of students to Ribby Hall in Blackpool for the week. We are hoping that Katie, Louis, Ragnar, Sandra, Brandon Shaw, Alex B and Raabia are having a great time.
